The 55th Utah Volunteer Infantry Regiment was one of the final regiments under the 24 Brigade Plan. The 55th would see major action during the American Civil War with major battle honors including the Logan, Eden Station, Wildwood, Salt Lake, First Pine Valley, Muddy Creek, Great Salt Lake and the First and Second Battles of Fort McElmo. The 55th was the first all freedman's regiment and first African-American unit to see combat.
