Major General Horatio Dickson (November 13, 1782-July 18, 1815) was an American general who served in the Division War, Canadian War, and War of 1812. He was also the military governor of Newfoundland.
Early life
Horatio Jack Nelson II was born in Bangor, Maine on November 13, 1782 to Mary and Jack Nelson. Horatio was noticed as a gifted child growing up, showing great academic skill. Horatio would be allowed to skip two grades allowing him to get into West Point by age 16.
Military career
Horatio, showing great talent, would be greatly promoted and achieve the rank of Captain by age 22. With the eruption of the Division and Canadian Wars, the President would promote Horatio to Major General and assign him X Corps, Army of the Northern Potomac.
Canadian War
Horatio was the primary American commander during the Canadian War, he won almost every battle he commanded in except for the Battle of the Wabash.
Newfoundland Campaign
On July 4, 1815, Horatio order Admiral Arnold Thompson to engage the Canadian fleet around Newfoundland and to ferry his 28,000 men across the channel to invade the island. After reaching the island however Horatio had to siege down Fort Point because the fort kept destroying his ships.
